surgical area
Sometimes referred to as the operating room. The place in a hospital for performing operations or surgery, which are medical treatments that involve cutting into the body to allow a physician to correct deformity, defect, or injury, examine possible illness, remove harmful tissue, or replace malfunctioning organs. The surgical area must be sterilized to prevent infection in the patient and well-equipped to ensure the surgeon has the tools needed for unexpected complications. The patient will receive anesthetics beforehand, and the procedure can be inpatient or outpatient. A common critical care operation is open heart surgery, particularly that of someone who experiences heart attack and needs healthy arteries taken from another part of the body and put in the trouble part to bypass, or go around, any blocked arteries.
