stroke
A condition that occurs when the brain stops receiving blood and, with it, oxygen and nutrients from the artery because the artery is blocked by fat buildup (an ischemic stroke) or weakened to the point of bursting (hemorrhagic stroke). Ischemic strokes are more common than hemorrhagic ones. Strokes occurring on one side of the body will affect how the other side of the body works; ones occurring in the right part of the brain often result in paralysis of the left side of the body, vision problems, or memory loss, and ones in the left part often result in paralysis of the right side of the body, speech or language difficulty, or memory loss.
