catheter
A thin, flexible tube inserted into the body that allows fluids to enter and exit a patient's system, usually for an extended period of time. It is important in critical care because it can provide the food and relief patients need when they are unable to eat or go to the bathroom or when they are suffering because their condition, a result of their illness or their medical treatment, limits their abilities.
